Peter Clapman is a Senior Advisor to CamberView Partners.
Mr. Clapman is widely regarded as one of the most thoughtful leaders in the corporate governance community. He served for 32 years as the Senior Vice President & Chief Investment Counsel for TIAA-CREF, a role in which he built and led TIAA-CREF’s heralded corporate governance program. During his tenure, which ended upon his retirement in 2005, BusinessWeek cited TIAA-CREF’s program as the most influential in the United States and globally.
Currently, Mr. Clapman is serving a three-year term with the Standing Advisory Group (SAG) for the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and is a member of the Stanford Law School Institutional Investor Forum. Mr. Clapman is a former partner of Governance for Owners LLP, a UK-based investment organization, a former board member of iPass, a NASDAQ-listed company and a former board member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD). He previously served on the New York State Comptroller Pension Fund Task Force and was on the committees of the NYSE, NASDAQ and the London Stock Exchange.
The International Corporate Governance Network (ICGN) awarded Mr. Clapman the ICGN 2005 Award for his achievements in improving global corporate governance standards. Corporate Secretary magazine in 2010 conferred on him its Lifetime Achievement Award for his balanced approach that won the respect of both investors and corporate management.
